Cakebread Cellars, Kobrand 2019 Reserve Chardonnay Los Carneros, Napa County, California
You Pay: $72.50 / bottle
Cakebread Cellars started in 1973 with the vineyard lands on the original 22-acre property in Rutherford. Over time, the family has acquired additional vineyards throughout Napa Valley and the North Coast. Today, the winery owns 15 sites totaling 560 vineyard acres in Carneros, Rutherford, Howell Mountain and Anderson Valley as well as other prime locations in Napa. The original property was mainly a pasture. After a consultation with the University of California at Davis, it was determined that the best varieties to plant were Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Jack Cakebread enrolled in the viticulture and enology program at UC Davis and made all his own wines until 1978, when his son Bruce joined him as winemaker.
The seductive, slightly floral aromas of delicious golden apple and honeydew melon, with complementary scents of crème brulee, yeast and mineral, preface a lush, full-bodied palate offering intense and expansive melon, peach and apple flavors accentuated by fresh, perfectly balanced acidity.
The wine’s long, elegant and focused finish showcases bright, apple-y flavors with hints of citrus, mineral and oak spice.
