The History of Scotch Whiskey : The Water of Life 

Scotch whisky often called Scotch is malt whisky or grain whisky made in Scotland but was initially created from malted barley.

 Industrial stills started creating whisky made from wheat and rye in the late 18th century. All Scotch whisky should be matured in oak barrels for at least three years and must have an ABV at less than 95%. The age on a bottle of Scotch whisky must be numerical form and have age of the newest whisky applied to make that brand and is known as guaranteed-age whisky. You cannot call a drink Scotch unless it was created 100% in Scotland.

​Single Malt Scotch Whiskey

A Scotch Whiskey purified at a single still from water and malted barley with no addition of any additional cereals, and made by batch purification in pot stills.   From 23rd November 2012, Single Malt Scotch Whisky is only bottled in Scotland.

Single Grain Scotch Whiskey​

​A Scotch Whiskey purified at a single distillery from water and malted barley with/without whole grains of another unmalted/malted cereals and which does not conform with the description of Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

 Speyside
