What is Red Wine?

Red wine is an alcohol made by fermenting the juice of grapes. Dark-skinned grapes are chosen for the production of red wine.

The obvious characteristic of red wine is the color. There are various shades of red wine and as it ages, it turns to brown. There are a wide range of flavors available with red wine.

The formation of red wine is done by squashing the juice of grapes with the skins and seeds. This results in imparting tannins to the wine which is a significant characteristic of a red wine. Tannins are chemical elements that lend ageability to a wine along with structure. You will enjoy tannic wines after some years when it ages as the tannins will soften over time and it will taste better.

There is a difference between red wine and white wine in the production process and also in choosing the grapes for production.

What are the Types of Red Wine?

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is a very popular red wine in the United States. The grapes from which this wine is made are big, tannic, and the wine made from them can be aged for years. This drink is suitable with any meat. People love to drink it with a burger as well.

Merlot

Merlot is the name for the grapes and also for the wine. When compared to the Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is less tannic and that’s why it is blended with other grapes to bring softness. If anyone is trying a red wine for the first time, they can go with Merlot for sure as their entry point as it is fruity and yummy. You can have Merlot with duck or chicken. Popular wine blends that may contain Merlot include Bordeaux, super Tuscans, etc.

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is a popular red wine from France that is very light and delicate. Its production has started in the United States as well for a long time. Oregon's Willamette Valley and Napa Valley are popular names in producing super tasty Pinot Noir wines. The grapes are medium to light bodied and this wine doesn’t have a blend of other grapes in it. It tastes best with sushi, salmon, or fish.
